Helium Escape Valve (HEV): is a signature feature of the Sea-Dweller line, located on the left side of the case at the 9 o'clock position.

Saturation Diving: It is designed for professional divers who spend days in pressurized chambers breathing a gas mix containing helium.

Pressure Equalization: Helium atoms are tiny and can seep past the watch seals into the case. During decompression, if that gas cannot escape, the pressure build-up could blow the sapphire crystal out.

Automatic Operation: The Rolex valve is one-way and spring-loaded. When the internal pressure exceeds external pressure by about 3 to 5 bars, the valve opens automatically to vent the helium.
